Panel of 4 people in a room discussing net zero.
October 10, 2023 5:30 pm to 6:45 pm

Achieving net zero will require changes that are unprecedented in their scale and scope. However, local and regional government leaders argue that their ability to plan effectively for the long term will be a considerable challenge due to differences in devolved powers, funding barriers, and a lack of capacity and skills at a local level.

This event will: introduce Key Cities new report, Levelling Up, Emissions Downwhich sets out the progress to net zero that local cities are making; shares the best examples from Labour-run local authorities; and focuses on how Labour Party policy can support local authorities to achieve their ambitious targets for the benefit of their citizens and the planet.

Speakers:

  • Kerry McCarthy, Shadow Minister for Climate Change
  • Rebecca Long Bailey MP, Co-chair of Key Cities APPG
  • Cllr Susan Hinchcliffe, Leader of Bradford City Council

Chair:

  •  Cllr John Merry, Chair of Key Cities Group and Deputy City Mayor, Salford City Council
