About Preston

Preston is a community city that’s putting the richness of life within reach for its people.

A dynamic, confident and growing city that still feels like home. A city where the full potential of its people, businesses and location are realised; open to investment that secures a sustainable future for all.

A well-connected and liveable city with a wealth of talent and character, Preston is Lancashire’s distinctive centre for commerce, culture and innovation. Where sky high ambition combine powerfully with civic pride, distinctive place-making and down to earth delivery.

At the centre of Preston’s cultural offer is the iconic Harris. For many local people, the Harris – a museum, art gallery and library – represents Preston; a jewel in the crown and proud landmark distinguishing the cityscape. Having received National Lottery Heritage Fund support, plus significant funding from other streams, the ambitious Re-Imagining the Harris project has started. The building is closed for now, with a planned date to re-open in Spring 2024 following refurbishment. Having recently celebrated its 125th birthday the Harris aims to be a cultural and social hub – a source of inspiration, pride and creativity for the next 125 years.
