Cllr Mike Stonard, Leader of Norwich City Council and Key Cities portfolio lead for social care, has been covered in The Municipal Journal this week. The article highlights the recent Key Cities report of recommendations for short and long-term reform for the social care sector.
He highlights the Government’s commitment to review the sector via the launch of a commission led by Baroness Casey, it is imperative that the right voices are listened to.
“It must be our priority to ensure that the right voices are heard from day one. These reforms need to be informed by views from the frontline and those involved in the day-to-day life of adults and child social care provision..”
“The report spells out a series of recommendations that the network believes should be implemented to address the urgent plea of its communities. These recommendations are the result of consultation with a wide range of officers across our network.”
“In the long term, Key Cities wants to see sustainable models to address chronic underfunding and rising demand. This should include replacement of the Adult Social Care Precept, which discriminates against areas with the greatest deprivation and lowest property values.”
“The Government’s commitment to social care reform is welcome, but swift action is essential.”
